What"s A Little Venice?

Italian explorers, on seeing the original inhabitants near Lake Maracaibo living on stilt houses on the water, dubbed the place Venezuela, a diminutive of Venice. Though it sounds like an indigenous name, like Guaicaipuro or Catatumbo, Venezuela is an Italian word. Go figure.
